Mendès-France, Pierre
(11 ene. 1907, París, Francia–18 oct. 1982, París).

Político y primer ministro francés (1954–55). Nacido en una familia judía, se tituló de abogado y fue miembro de la Cámara de Diputados (1932–40). En la segunda guerra mundial fue encarcelado por el gobierno de Vichy, pero escapó a Londres, en donde se unió a la fuerza aérea de la Francia Libre y ocupó cargos financieros en el gobierno provisional de Charles de Gaulle. Como legislador en la Francia de posguerra (1946–58), criticó las políticas económicas del gobierno y las guerras en Indochina y África del norte. En 1954 se convirtió en primer ministro; puso fin a la participación de Francia en Indochina y también ayudó a lograr la autonomía de Túnez. Sus propuestas sobre reformas económicas provocaron su derrota en 1955. Intentó sin éxito convertir el Partido Radical-Socialista en el eje de la izquierda no comunista y se opuso a la presidencia de De Gaulle.
